Lumbosacral osteochondrosis

For the diagnosis of lumbosacral osteochondrosis, a lateral radiograph of the lumbosacral junction is required. This image should be taken under the same sedation or anesthesia as the hip radiographs.

Projections

  • A rotation around the longitudinal axis must be avoided. The position is correct when the transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae and the wings of the ilium overlap.
  • The central beam should be directed toward the lumbosacral junction.
  • To obtain a non-overlapping view of the lumbosacral intervertebral space, a support should be placed under the flank.
